NEW DELHI — Aligning with the ongoing celebrations marking 12 years of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a profound Sanskrit Subhashitam (wise saying) on Thursday. The verse highlights agriculture and crops not merely as economic tools, but as the literal foundation of human existence and societal nourishment.
Writing on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) under the campaign hashtag #12YearsOfKisanSamriddhi (12 Years of Farmer Prosperity), the Prime Minister emphasized the deep spiritual and physical connection between the farmer and the land.
“Agriculture is not merely a means of livelihood, but the fundamental basis of the nourishment of society and the nation,” PM Modi stated. “When the sweat of our farmer brothers and sisters mixes with the soil, it transforms into food and provides vital strength to the lives of our countrymen.”
The Timeless Wisdom of the Verse
The Prime Minister shared the following ancient verse to illustrate his message:
ते कृषिं च सस्यं च मनुष्या उप जीवन्ति। कृष्टराधिरुपजीवनीयो भवति य एवं वेद॥
The Meaning: Agriculture and crops are the very foundation of human life. One who truly understands this timeless truth carries out agricultural work with proper dedication, and through it, the entire fabric of society is sustained, protected, and nourished.
The post underscores the central focus the government has placed on rural economics and agrarian reforms over the last 12 years. By framing farming through the lens of classical literature, the message seeks to elevate the social status of agricultural labor, transforming the perception of farming from a grueling occupation into a noble, vital service to the nation.
A Focus on Grassroots Welfare
The timing of the message coincides with the resolutions passed at the recent high-level NDA conclave at Bharat Mandapam, where coalition leaders reviewed rural development blueprints and grassroots welfare initiatives.
Over the past decade, central programs such as the PM-KISAN direct benefit transfer scheme and crop insurance modules have been heavily promoted under the banner of Kisan Samriddhi. The Prime Minister’s latest statement signals that as the administration transitions into its long-term “Viksit Bharat 2047” roadmap, strengthening the agricultural backbone and boosting the rural economy will remain absolute pillars of national policy.
