Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a classical Sanskrit Subhashitam emphasizing that the ultimate purpose and fulfillment of human existence lie in selfless service and working for the well-being of all living beings.
The verse posted by the Prime Minister reads:
“एतावज्जन्मसाफल्यं देहिनामिह देहिषु।
प्राणैरर्थैर्धिया वाचा श्रेय एवाचरेत्सदा॥”
Verse Breakdown and Meaning
The Subhashitam outlines four core human resources that should be dedicated to benevolent actions:
-
प्राणैः (Prāṇaiḥ – Physical Efforts/Life Energy): Utilizing one’s health, strength, and actions to assist others.
-
अर्थैः (Arthaiḥ – Wealth & Resources): Sharing financial and material resources to uplift those in need.
-
धिया (Dhiyā – Intellect & Wisdom): Employing knowledge, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills for societal good.
-
वाचा (Vācā – Speech & Words): Using encouraging, truthful, and comforting communication to bring peace and harmony.
Core Message
The verse asserts that human life attains its highest success (Janma Sāphalyam) when an individual consistently acts for the greater good (Shreyas) across all dimensions of life. Rather than pursuing purely self-serving motives, true fulfillment comes from practicing empathy and active benevolence toward all living entities (Dehiṣu).
