NEW DELHI — Union Minister Kiren Rijiju launched a scathing critique against opposition parties during NDTV’s ‘People’s Sansad’, comparing political adversaries to perpetual ‘naraaz fufas’ (grumpy uncles) whose political frustration stems directly from an inability to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the polls.

Addressing a gathering of youth and students, the Parliamentary and Minority Affairs Minister contrasted political rhetoric with what he framed as transformative governance, spotlighting the rapid economic expansion and technological modernization across Northeast India.

    Unpacking the Northeastern Growth Engine

Rijiju outlined a multi-tiered development framework aimed at integrating northeastern states into the broader national economy:

    • High-Tech Manufacturing: Emphasized that hosting a semiconductor production plant in the region was a former political impossibility that has now materialized.

    • Dual-Infrastructure Development: Stressed that building border highways, new airports, and transit corridors (hard infrastructure) alongside healthcare and education networks (soft infrastructure) is key to retaining local youth talent.

    • Empowering the Local Youth: Assured students that basic survival struggles in the Northeast are being replaced by high-value opportunities within their home states.

    Leadership and National Fitness Drive

Reflecting on his previous assignment as Youth Affairs and Sports Minister, Rijiju highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s personal discipline, crediting him with conceptualizing the Fit India Movement alongside athletic initiatives like Khelo India.

He concluded by noting that India’s status as a top global growth economy underpins young voters’ faith in the vision for a developed nation by 2047.
