JEWAR — Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Uttar Pradesh on March 28, 2026, to inaugurate Phase I of the Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar. Developed with an investment of approximately ₹11,200 crore, the airport is set to become a primary international gateway for the National Capital Region (NCR), complementing Delhi’s IGI Airport.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to conduct a walkthrough of the Terminal Building at 11:30 AM, followed by the official inauguration and a public address at 12:00 PM.

    Key Features of Phase I

    • Capacity: Initially designed to handle 12 million passengers per annum (MPPA), with a long-term roadmap to scale up to 70 MPPA.

    • Infrastructure: Features a 3,900-meter runway capable of handling wide-body aircraft and advanced navigation systems (ILS) for all-weather operations.

    • Cargo Powerhouse: Includes a Multi-Modal Cargo Hub designed to handle 2.5 lakh metric tonnes annually, expandable to 18 lakh metric tonnes.

    • Maintenance Hub: A dedicated 40-acre MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) facility to support domestic and international airlines.

    A Multi-Modal Transport Hub

The airport is strategically located along the Yamuna Expressway and is designed for seamless integration across various transit systems:

    • Connectivity: Planned links to road, rail, metro, and regional rapid transit systems (RRTS).

    • Sustainability: Envisioned as a net-zero emissions facility, integrating energy-efficient systems and green practices.

    • Design: The architecture blends modern infrastructure with Indian heritage, drawing inspiration from traditional ghats and havelis.

    Strategic Significance

The NIA is one of India’s largest greenfield projects and marks a significant milestone in positioning the Delhi NCR as a leading global aviation hub. By functioning as an integrated system with IGI Airport, it aims to ease congestion, boost regional tourism, and accelerate industrial growth in western Uttar Pradesh.
