NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow following a tragic road accident in the Fatehgarh Sahib district of Punjab, which has claimed the lives of at least seven devotees.

The victims were returning from Baisakhi celebrations at Sri Anandpur Sahib late Tuesday night when their bus reportedly suffered a technical failure—possibly a broken axle—causing it to overturn near Bassi Pathana.

    Condolences and Support

In a message shared by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the PM conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to the grieving families and wished for the recovery of those injured.

“Pained to hear about the mishap in Fatehgarh Sahib district, Punjab. I extend my condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured,” the PM stated.

    Incident Overview

    • Casualties: 7 confirmed dead, with approximately 20 others sustaining injuries.

    • The Victims: The deceased included the Granthi (priest) of the Main Majri Gurudwara, who was also driving the vehicle, along with several women and residents of the Main Majri and Kajjal Majra villages.

    • Cause of Accident: Initial police reports from SSP Shubham Aggarwal suggest a technical fault led the driver to lose control of the bus, which was carrying around 35 to 40 passengers.

Local authorities and rescue teams arrived at the scene shortly after the crash to coordinate relief efforts. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention. The incident has cast a shadow over the festive period in the region as the local community mourns the loss of their neighbors.
