NEW DELHI: Expanding its footprint in the renewable energy sector, OIL Green Energy Limited (OGEL)—a wholly owned subsidiary of Maharatna CPSE Oil India Limited—has signed a Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) with Hindustan Waste Treatment Private Limited (HWT). The collaboration aims to develop integrated bioenergy and sustainable waste management projects across India.

The corporate development was formalized through a regulatory filing submitted to stock exchanges on May 27, 2026, in compliance with SEBI listing regulations.

The 50:50 Corporate Architecture and Strategic Scope

The agreement establishes an equal-equity partnership designed to capitalize on India’s rapidly growing green fuel and circular economy markets. The newly formed entity will target opportunities in three core areas:

    • Compressed Biogas (CBG): Setting up commercial-scale processing plants to convert agricultural and organic waste into green auto fuel and industrial gas.

    • Waste-to-Energy (WtE): Deploying advanced thermal and biochemical technologies to generate electricity or fuel from municipal solid waste (MSW).

    • Resource Recovery Infrastructure: Creating scalable, sustainable waste processing systems to recover valuable by-products, reducing landfill dependency.

Synergizing Public Assets and Private Technology

The joint venture brings together the distinct institutional and technical capabilities of two major sector players:

    • OIL Green Energy Limited (OGEL): Backed by the financial muscle and upstream execution experience of Oil India Limited, OGEL serves as the primary vehicle driving the Maharatna’s diversification into non-fossil energy sectors, including solar, green hydrogen, and bio-fuels.

    • Hindustan Waste Treatment Private Limited (HWT): A wholly owned subsidiary of SFC Environmental Technologies Limited, HWT brings specialized technical expertise in designing, engineering, and operating waste-to-energy plants. Notably, the firm has run a municipal solid waste-based biogas facility in North Goa for over a decade.

National Alignment: Circular Economy and Decarbonization

The commercial partnership aligns closely with the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliance) goals, the Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) initiative, and national net-zero commitments.

By combining OGEL’s energy sector infrastructure with HWT’s proprietary waste-processing technologies, the joint venture plans to deploy scalable, commercially viable bioenergy plants across key urban and industrial clusters. This rollout will provide clean energy alternatives while simultaneously addressing the country’s municipal waste management challenges.
