NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a Sanskrit Subhashitam on Thursday, paying deep homage to Sage Patanjali and emphasizing the profound physiological and mental benefits of Yoga.
The Prime Minister observed that integrating Yoga into one’s regular routine acts as a vital anchor for holistic health, keeping the physical body healthy and the mind calm. He further noted that making the practice a part of daily life fosters a balanced, energetic, and purposeful lifestyle.
The Prime Minister’s Message
In an official post delivered on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister shared both a personal message and the traditional verse:
“योग का नियमित अभ्यास तन को स्वस्थ और मन को शांत रखता है। इसे अपनी दिनचर्या का हिस्सा बनाने से जीवन संतुलित और ऊर्जावान बनता है।
योगेन चित्तस्य पदेन वाचां मलं शरीरस्य च वैद्यकेन। योऽपाकरोत् तं परवरं मुनीनां पतञ्जलिं प्राञ्जलिरानतोऽस्मि॥”
Translation and Deep Significance
The verse shared by the Prime Minister translates to English as:
“I bow down with folded palms to Sage Patanjali, the most exalted among the contemplative sages, who has removed impurity of the mind-content through Yoga, of speech through grammar and of the body through Ayurveda.”
The timeless Subhashitam recognizes Sage Patanjali’s foundational contributions to three distinct pillars of classical Indian knowledge and well-being:
-
Yoga: As a spiritual and psychological science to cleanse, discipline, and stabilize the mind.
-
Grammar (Vyakarana): To refine language, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and purity of speech.
-
Ayurveda: To remove physical impurities and cure ailments of the human body, promoting longevity and physical vitality.
The Prime Minister’s advocacy for Yoga continues to highlight its global significance as a preventive healthcare system and a medium for achieving psychological harmony amidst modern lifestyles.
