EVIAN (FRANCE) — Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Thursday addressed the critical Outreach Session on “Ensuring a Safe, Rapid and Efficient Rollout of Artificial Intelligence” at the G7 Summit in Evian, France. Framing AI as a transformative force capable of redefining human civilization, the Prime Minister championed a human-centric “MANAV” vision, urging global leaders to anchor the technology in inclusivity, security, and the public good.
The high-level address follows India’s recent hosting of the AI Impact Summit, signaling New Delhi’s growing leadership in international technology governance and the digital global economy.
Cyberspace as a Global Public Good
Addressing the gathered G7 leaders and outreach partners, Prime Minister Modi emphasized that cyberspace must be treated as a global public good. He stressed that democratic nations require unhindered access to robust AI models capable of securing critical information infrastructure and neutralizing advanced cyber threats.
Rather than treating technological speed and safety as competing priorities, the Prime Minister called for an integrated approach where deployment speed, operational efficiency, and systemic safety are developed in tandem.
The Four-Point Global AI Blueprint
To achieve a balanced global digital ecosystem, the Prime Minister presented four core strategic suggestions to the G7 assembly:
-
Safe-by-Design Systems: AI architectures must integrate rigid security protocols and ethical safeguards directly into their initial development phase, rather than treating safety as an afterthought.
-
Unified Regulatory Guidelines: The international community must co-develop common standards, testing frameworks, and regulatory guidelines to ensure cross-border compliance and interoperability.
-
Countering Malicious Tech: Global institutions must establish proactive cooperation frameworks to combat the rising threats of deepfakes, misinformation, and coordinated cyber fraud.
-
Bridging the Global South Digital Divide: The economic and developmental benefits of AI must be intentionally extended to the countries of the Global South to prevent deep technological fragmentation and ensure an inclusive world order.
Expanding Human Potential
Concluding his address, Prime Minister Modi underscored that artificial intelligence must ultimately serve to expand human potential, empower human choice, and protect human dignity. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to collaborating with international partners and G7 economies to convert these principles into enforceable global standards.
