NEW DELHI — India’s state-owned steel giant, Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), has hit a major production milestone. The company’s Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) reported its highest-ever monthly coil rolling performance during its latest production run.
In June 2026, the facility’s modern Hot Strip Mill-2 (HSM-2) successfully rolled out an unprecedented 10,759 hot-rolled (HR) coils. This milestone breaks the plant’s previous monthly high of 10,713 coils, which was set in October 2025.
Key Performance Metrics
The historic run at the integrated steel plant highlights several notable operational milestones:
-
June 2026 Milestone: 10,759 hot-rolled coils.
-
Prior High (October 2025): 10,713 hot-rolled coils.
-
Primary Industries Supplied: Automotive assembly, large-scale infrastructure, commercial construction, precision engineering, and specialized industrial machinery.
Management credited the record-setting output to ongoing process improvements and finely tuned mill schedules. These adjustments allowed the plant to boost overall volume while maintaining strict equipment safety standards and operational efficiency.
Meeting the Nation’s Industrial Needs
The HSM-2 unit is one of SAIL’s premier manufacturing assets. It is designed to produce high-strength, premium-grade hot-rolled sheets that satisfy demanding industrial quality standards.
Eclipsing a major volume record in less than a year points to a rapid expansion of operational capability at RSP. This steady increase in high-grade steel manufacturing directly feeds India’s growing infrastructure network and heavy engineering sectors, cementing SAIL’s role as a vital supplier to the domestic economy.
