NEW DELHI — Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged climate activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk to prioritize his health and strictly adhere to medical guidance following the conclusion of his 26-day hunger strike.

The Prime Minister’s statement comes immediately after Wangchuk agreed to end his fast late Thursday night upon receiving written assurances from the Union Government:
-
Official Appeal: Expressing concern for the 59-year-old activist’s health—who lost over 11 kg during the 26-day strike—PM Modi urged Wangchuk to adjust his daily routine according to his medical team’s instructions and work towards regaining his previous weight as quickly as possible.
-
Well-Wishing Statement: In his post in Hindi, PM Modi stated: “I pray to the Almighty that Sonam Ji remains healthy.”

Context of Resolution: The Prime Minister’s appeal follows intensive negotiations led by Union Ministers J.P. Nadda and Dr. Jitendra Singh, which resulted in government commitments to debate examination system reforms in Parliament, offer financial compensation to families affected by paper leaks, and protect peaceful student protesters from legal prosecution.
