Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district, marking a major boost for North Andhra Pradesh’s air connectivity and economic landscape.
Developed by GMR Group at an estimated cost of ₹5,000 crore, the new greenfield airport is scheduled to begin commercial operations on August 17, 2026. Designed to handle six million passengers annually in its initial phase, the master plan accounts for eventual expansion to up to 40 million passengers per year. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu accompanied the Prime Minister during the project walkthrough, which forms part of a broader ₹18,000 crore suite of developmental projects launched across the state.
