NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has extended his warmest congratulations to Ali Falih Kadhim al-Zaidi on his assumption of office as the Prime Minister of Iraq.

In an official diplomatic outreach, Prime Minister Modi underscored the historical depth of the relationship between the two nations and reiterated India’s commitment to deepening strategic and economic cooperation.

    Reaffirming Bilateral Commitment

Sharing his message on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi stated:

“Heartiest congratulations to Ali Falih Kadhim al-Zaidi on assuming office as Prime Minister of Iraq. India highly values its longstanding and friendly ties with Iraq and remains firmly committed to further strengthening our bilateral ties in all areas. I extend my best wishes to him and look forward to working together for the shared progress and prosperity of our two nations.”

    Strategic Context of India-Iraq Relations

The diplomatic message highlights several key dimensions of the bilateral partnership:

    • Energy Security: Iraq remains one of India’s largest and most reliable suppliers of crude oil, anchoring the core economic relationship between New Delhi and Baghdad.

    • Trade and Development: Beyond energy, both nations share robust trade ties encompassing pharmaceuticals, agricultural commodities, and infrastructure development.

    • Capacity Building: India continues to support Iraq through capacity-building programs, technical cooperation, and educational exchanges under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) framework.
