NEW DELHI – State-run engineering major Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has initiated legal action against Raichur Power Corporation Limited (RPCL) to recover outstanding dues amounting to ₹143.21 crore. The commercial suit was filed before the Bengaluru Commercial Court, as disclosed in a regulatory filing on April 18, 2026.

    The Yeramaras Power Project Dispute

The legal conflict stems from a contract involving the Yeramaras Thermal Power Station. BHEL was responsible for the supply, services, and associated works for the facility’s 2×800 MW units. The company alleges that significant payments related to these works remain unpaid by RPCL.

    Regulatory Compliance

BHEL filed the suit under Regulation 30(4) of the SEBI Listing Regulations, which mandates that listed companies disclose any “material litigation” that could impact their financial standing or operations.

    Key Highlights of the Suit

    • Total Claim: ₹143.21 Crore.

    • Location: Bengaluru Commercial Court.

    • Project Involved: Yeramaras Thermal Power Station.

    • Nature of Dispute: Unpaid dues for infrastructure and engineering services.

The development underscores the persistent challenges of payment delays and contractual disputes within India’s large-scale power and infrastructure sectors. This move follows BHEL’s recent withdrawal of its Letter of Intent (LOI) for an 800 MW project in Madhya Pradesh, signaling a more cautious approach to its project portfolio.
