NEW DELHI — Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Limited (CMPDI), in technical collaboration with IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, has established India’s first field-based methodology for quantifying greenhouse gas (GHG) fugitive emissions and formulating country-specific emission factors for opencast coal operations.
The milestone follows successful field sampling executed at Bharat Coking Coal Limited’s (BCCL) Amalgamated Block-II Opencast Project in Dhanbad on September 10, 2026.

Prior Baseline Benchmark: Successful baseline data collection for underground coal mine emissions completed on July 23, 2026, at BCCL’s Moonidih Project (Degree-III Underground Mine, WJ Area).
