NEW DELHI — Congress MP Sukhdeo Bhagat has criticized the Central Government for its handling of the ongoing conflict in West Asia, calling for an urgent all-party meeting to address national concerns.

Speaking following a review by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bhagat questioned the gap between the government’s stated policies and their actual implementation. He expressed particular concern over India’s “unpreparedness” regarding crude oil requirements, citing the nation’s heavy dependence on the volatile Middle East region.

    Key Highlights:

    • Energy Security: Bhagat urged the government to diversify oil imports by strengthening ties with Africa, Russia, and Latin America to mitigate the impact of a prolonged war.

    • Call for Transparency: The MP accused the Centre of remaining in a perpetual “election mood” and urged leadership to rise above political tensions to inform the public of the actual situation.

    • National Interest: Describing the crisis as a “problem for the whole country,” he questioned why the government is avoiding a collective forum with all political parties.

While appreciating the intent of certain policies, the Congress leader emphasized that the lack of strategic execution could leave India vulnerable to global supply chain disruptions.
