NEW DELHI — In a major move to bolster occupational healthcare, Union Minister for Labour & Employment Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya today launched a nationwide Annual Health Check-Up Initiative from ESIC Medical College & Hospital, Basaidarapur. The program provides free yearly health screenings for all workers aged 40 and above across India.
Strengthening “Shram Shakti”
Addressing a gathering of workers and officials, Dr. Mandaviya emphasized that the initiative is designed for early disease detection, with necessary treatments and medicines to be provided through ESIC facilities. This launch coincides with a broader push under the new Labour Codes to ensure dignity and welfare for the workforce.
Key Highlights of Social Security Expansion

Massive Coverage Spike: Social security coverage in India has jumped from 19% to 64% over the last decade, now benefiting approximately 94 crore people.

ESIC Growth: The number of ESIC beneficiaries has more than doubled, rising from 7 crore to nearly 15 crore.

Gig Worker Inclusion: Dr. Mandaviya noted that India is among the first countries to provide formal social security for gig and platform workers.

Inclusivity: Coverage is being extended to workers in hazardous occupations and establishments with fewer than 10 employees.
Progressive Labour Reforms
The Minister also highlighted critical reforms aimed at gender parity and welfare:

Equal Wages: Legal provisions ensuring men and women receive equal pay.

Maternity Benefits: Paid maternity leave increased from 12 to 26 weeks.

Flexible Work: New provisions for work-from-home options for women.
The launch was observed simultaneously at 11 ESIC hospital locations nationwide, marking a shift toward a more proactive, health-first approach for India’s industrial and service-sector employees.
