NEW DELHI — Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a pivotal six-day diplomatic tour covering Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand. The multi-nation itinerary, running from July 6 to 11, 2026, marks an aggressive push by New Delhi to deepen economic integration, secure maritime trade routes, and formalize defense frameworks across the Indo-Pacific.

The tour underscores India’s evolving geopolitical priorities, leveraging high-level bilateral summits to cement alliances with key partners in Southeast Asia, the Quad, and the broader Pacific region.

Indonesia: Fortifying Maritime Security and Tech Alliances

The initial leg of the trip brings PM Modi to Jakarta for comprehensive talks with President Prabowo Subianto. Happening during the landmark 75th anniversary of India-Indonesia diplomatic ties, this leg is positioned to add deep momentum to the nations’ Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Given their shared proximity to vital international shipping lanes, the two leaders will focus heavily on maritime domain awareness and joint security initiatives. Additional high-priority agendas include scaling up bilateral trade, expanding healthcare infrastructure, and driving collaborations in digital public tech and space exploration.

Australia: Speeding Up Trade and Critical Mineral Security

The Prime Minister will then travel to Australia to co-chair the Annual Leaders’ Summit alongside Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. A primary goal of this visit is to fast-track negotiations for the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA), which aims to unlock major cross-border investments.

With global supply chains shifting, the discussions will zero in on securing stable pipelines for critical minerals, advancing clean energy technologies, and enhancing joint defense interoperability. PM Modi is also scheduled to meet with Australian business leaders and address the thriving Indian diaspora community.

New Zealand: Ending a Four-Decade Diplomatic Hiatus

The final leg of the tour concludes with a historic stop in Auckland. This marks the first official visit by an Indian Prime Minister to New Zealand in more than forty years, representing a long-awaited diplomatic re-engagement.

PM Modi and New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon are slated to establish a modernized framework for bilateral growth. The agenda is tailored around expanding agricultural tech sharing, driving renewable energy ventures, and designing seamless mobility pathways for students and highly skilled professionals.
