NEW DELHI / MUMBAI — In a major realignment of Maharashtra’s parliamentary dynamics, six Lok Sabha members from the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) have arrived in New Delhi to formalize their integration into the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena.
The mass defection reduces the Thackeray camp’s Lower House strength to a mere three seats. Critically, by securing exactly six out of the nine elected UBT lawmakers, the breakaway group reaches the two-thirds majority baseline needed to bypass the punitive clauses of India’s anti-defection law.

Financial Suffocation and Local Stagnation Force the Shift
Addressing his constituency cadres, Dharashiv MP Omraje Nimbalkar did not mince words regarding the financial chokehold that broke the opposition faction’s endurance. He noted that a complete lack of development resources left their administrative hands tied at the grassroots level.
“How long can we keep fighting with limited resources? I honestly feel that we, too, must now pursue the path to power,” Nimbalkar stated. “There are no funds available even to repair a simple transformer for farmers. Every year, only estimates are drawn up. Payments for our workers’ bills are being withheld. Should we just stand by and watch helplessly?”
The transition is further accelerated by deep-seated personal motivations. Nimbalkar revealed that high-level intervention by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis led to a direct audience with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The central administration has reportedly assured Nimbalkar that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will challenge the trial court acquittal of the primary suspects implicated in the 2006 assassination of his father, Pawanraje Nimbalkar, before the High Court.
Thackeray Dismisses Rebellion as Passing Storm
Faced with yet another structural fracture within his party organization, Uddhav Thackeray maintained a composed demeanor, urging voters to exact political retribution at the ballot box.
“I have faced such crisis before also, it has not shaken me… you should all take revenge during elections,” Thackeray declared.
His top political strategist and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut reinforced the core leadership’s position, asserting that the party’s foundational identity remains untarnished by legislative desertions. “Many came and many have gone.. but Thackerays have stayed… it doesn’t matter,” Raut concluded.
High-Stakes Decision Rests with Speaker Om Birla
With the rebel MPs scheduling a formal press conference in the capital today, the legal battlefront has shifted entirely to the table of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
The six breakaway MPs have sought official validation for a merger, maintaining that they constitute the authentic legislative core of the party. Conversely, the Thackeray faction has moved a fast-track petition seeking their immediate disqualification. The Speaker’s verdict will decide whether the dissident legislators preserve their parliamentary seats or trigger a series of high-profile bye-elections.
