THANJAVUR / TRICHY β In a major push to create an industry-ready workforce for the food processing sector, the National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management, Thanjavur (NIFTEM-T) has launched a pilot Short-Term Skill Training Programme (STSTP).
Developed under the aegis of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), the program is being conducted in active collaboration with FMCG major ITC Limited at its Integrated Consumer Goods Manufacturing and Logistics (ICML) facility in Trichy, Tamil Nadu.
π Industry-Integrated Training with Assured Placements
The pilot initiative is designed to bridge the gap between academic training and practical, on-the-job industrial skills:
-
Specialized Curriculum: The inaugural program will train candidates to become certified Assistant Baking Technicians (aligned with NSQF Level 3 standards).
-
On-Site Experience: The first batch of 18 trainees will undergo comprehensive, hands-on training directly inside ITC’s active manufacturing plant from July 7 to August 20, 2026.
-
Employment Guarantee: Bridging the gap from training to career, all 18 participants enrolled in this initial pilot batch have already been assured direct employment at ITC Ltd upon successful completion of the course.
π Empowering the Food Tech Workforce
The program was officially inaugurated by Prof. V. Palanimuthu, Director of NIFTEM-Thanjavur, alongside Shri Surjeet Singh Roria (General Manager & Head, ITC-ICML) and Shri Padmanabhan T. (Senior HR Manager, ITC-ICML).
As an NCVET-recognized Deemed Awarding Body, NIFTEM-Thanjavur is progressively scaling these National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) aligned courses. By certifying candidates through nationally recognized credentials, the institute aims to scale up similar partnerships across multiple sectors of the food processing industry.
