NEW DELHI – The Ministry of Women and Child Development is set to launch the 8th edition of Poshan Pakhwada tomorrow, April 9, 2026. The two-week nationwide celebration, running until April 23, aims to tackle malnutrition through a massive “Jan Andolan” (People’s Movement).

Theme: “Maximizing Brain Development in the First Six Years of Life”

This year’s theme centers on the scientific consensus that 85% of brain development occurs before a child turns six. The campaign will prioritize the “First 1,000 Days” as a critical window for physical and cognitive growth.

    Five Key Focus Areas:

    1. Maternal & Child Nutrition: Emphasis on pregnancy diets, exclusive breastfeeding, and proper complementary feeding.

    2. Early Stimulation (0–3 years): Promoting responsive caregiving to boost infant brain plasticity.

    3. Play-Based Learning (3–6 years): Strengthening school readiness through holistic, interactive education.

    4. Reducing Screen Time: Engaging parents and communities to replace digital consumption with active play.

    5. Strengthening Anganwadis: Enhancing local centers through community participation (Jan Bhagidari) and CSR initiatives.

    Inaugural Event Details

    • Date & Time: April 9, 2026 | 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM

    • Venue: Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi

    • Leadership: Hosted by Union Minister Smt. Annpurna Devi, alongside MoS Smt. Savitri Thakur and Secretary Shri Anil Malik.

    • Live Stream: Available via the NIC Webcast portal and the Ministry’s official YouTube channel.

    Grassroots Mobilization

Throughout the fortnight, Poshan Panchayats, awareness sessions, and play-based learning workshops will be organized across all States and UTs. These activities are designed to empower frontline Anganwadi workers and mobilize families toward building a malnutrition-free and “Viksit” India.
