NEW DELHI – The Ministry of Women and Child Development is set to launch the 8th edition of Poshan Pakhwada tomorrow, April 9, 2026. The two-week nationwide celebration, running until April 23, aims to tackle malnutrition through a massive “Jan Andolan” (People’s Movement).
Theme: “Maximizing Brain Development in the First Six Years of Life”
This year’s theme centers on the scientific consensus that 85% of brain development occurs before a child turns six. The campaign will prioritize the “First 1,000 Days” as a critical window for physical and cognitive growth.
Five Key Focus Areas:
-
Maternal & Child Nutrition: Emphasis on pregnancy diets, exclusive breastfeeding, and proper complementary feeding.
-
Early Stimulation (0–3 years): Promoting responsive caregiving to boost infant brain plasticity.
-
Play-Based Learning (3–6 years): Strengthening school readiness through holistic, interactive education.
-
Reducing Screen Time: Engaging parents and communities to replace digital consumption with active play.
-
Strengthening Anganwadis: Enhancing local centers through community participation (Jan Bhagidari) and CSR initiatives.
