NEW DELHI — Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow over a fatal road accident in the Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand, which claimed the lives of eight individuals on Thursday. In addition to offering his condolences, the Prime Minister has sanctioned financial assistance for the victims and their families from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
The accident occurred when a vehicle, reportedly carrying occupants returning from a funeral in Rishikesh, plunged nearly 300 meters into a gorge near Nail on the Chamba-Koti road.

To support the affected families during this tragedy, the Prime Minister’s Office announced the following ex-gratia payments:

Next of Kin (Deceased): ₹2 Lakh per individual.

Injured Survivors: ₹50,000 per person.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has also directed the district administration to ensure immediate medical care for the survivors and to oversee the relief operations.
