NEW DELHI — NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL) has announced a major procurement drive, inviting bids for the supply of solar photovoltaic (PV) modules for a 1,200 MW project situated in the Khavda Renewable Energy Park, Gujarat.
Located in the high-irradiation zone of the Rann of Kutch, the project is a cornerstone of India’s strategy to scale up its green energy capacity through massive, centralized solar parks.
Project Details and Capacity
The procurement is divided into four distinct blocks, with a total cumulative capacity reaching over 1,575 MWp when including spare modules. The breakdown is as follows:
-
Block S1: 328.25 MWp
-
Block S2: 393.90 MWp
-
Block S3: 393.90 MWp
-
Block S4: 459.55 MWp
The tender specifies the supply of crystalline bifacial solar PV modules, which generate power from both sides of the panel, increasing overall efficiency.
Key Deadlines for Bidders
The bidding process is set on an accelerated timeline, reflecting the urgency of India’s renewable energy targets:
-
Bid Document Download: Starts May 13, 2026
-
Pre-Bid Queries Deadline: May 14, 2026
-
Bid Submission Deadline: May 22, 2026 (3:00 PM IST)
-
Technical Bid Opening: May 22, 2026 (3:30 PM IST)
Strict Eligibility and Security
NTPC REL has set high benchmarks to ensure project quality and reliability. Bidders are required to have experience in manufacturing or supplying at least 200 MWp of solar modules within a 12-month period over the last five years.
Furthermore, Bid Security requirements are substantial, ranging from ₹5 crore to ₹50 crore based on the capacity quoted. The selection will follow a “Single Stage Two Envelope” system, culminating in a reverse auction to ensure competitive pricing.
Strategic Impact
The Khavda RE Park is vital to India’s “Viksit Bharat” vision for 2047. By leveraging internal resources and external borrowings, NTPC REL is positioning this project as a flagship initiative to drive down solar costs while bolstering the domestic manufacturing ecosystem.
