AGARTALA — In a major effort to expand export linkages for North Eastern agriculture, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), in partnership with the Tripura State Organic Farming Development Agency (TSOFDA) and the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of Tripura, organized an International Organic Buyer-Seller Meet in Agartala.
The trade initiative brought together approximately 200 delegates—including over 20 international buyers from Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Italy, Greece, and Argentina, alongside 27 Indian exporters and 96 farmers representing 22 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs).
Key Agricultural Highlights & Displayed Produce
The event showcased Tripura’s specialized organic and natural offerings across 12 curated exhibition stalls, facilitating direct commercial discussions between foreign importers and local growers:
-
Queen Pineapple: Tripura’s flagship fruit variety with growing international demand.
-
GI-Tagged Kalikhasa Rice: A native aromatic rice variety recognized under Geographical Indication protections.
-
Organic Spices & Produce: Certified organic ginger, turmeric, black sesame, jackfruit, and scented lemon.
Strategic Leadership Perspectives
Inaugurating the meet and felicitating local organic farmers, Tripura Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath emphasized the state’s potential to establish sustainable agri-value chains by linking primary producers directly with overseas markets. He reiterated the state administration’s commitment to supporting organic infrastructure and export facilitation.
The event was also attended by Apurba Roy, Secretary of Agriculture & Horticulture (Government of Tripura), Jennifer Chang, Executive Director of IFOAM Organics Asia, and senior officials from APEDA.
The initiative aligns with APEDA’s broader mandate to strengthen India’s organic export ecosystem across the North Eastern Region through certification support, capacity building, and direct buyer-seller networking.
