BHUBANESWAR — In a key administrative transition within the state’s security apparatus, senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Vinaytosh Mishra has been tasked with leading the Odisha Police as its acting Director General of Police (DGP). The mantle passes to Mishra following the retirement of outgoing police chief Y.B. Khurania.
A seasoned officer of the 1993-batch IPS cadre, Mishra currently heads the state Crime Branch. His appointment comes at a crucial operational juncture, providing seamless command and maintaining administrative stability across the state’s law enforcement hierarchy while the government formalizes the selection process for a permanent DGP.
Over a distinguished career spanning more than three decades, Mishra has helmed critical assignments across field policing, complex criminal investigations, and state-level administration. As acting chief, his immediate mandate will center on maintaining public order, strengthening district-level security frameworks, and ensuring operational continuity across Odisha’s police force.
