AHILYANAGAR, MAHARASHTRA — DRDO Chairman Dr. Samir V. Kamat has officially unveiled new Advanced Armoured Platforms in both Tracked and Wheeled configurations. Developed by the Vehicles Research & Development Establishment (VRDE), these next-generation combat vehicles are designed to meet the modern mobility and protection needs of the Indian Armed Forces.
Technical Capabilities & Firepower
The platforms represent a major leap in indigenous combat engineering, featuring:
-
Advanced Weaponry: Integrated with a 30 mm Crewless Turret and a 7.62 mm PKT gun, capable of launching Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGMs).
-
Mobility & Protection: Powered by high-output engines with automatic transmission, achieving high power-to-weight ratios and STANAG Level 4 and 5 ballistic and blast protection.
-
Amphibious Operations: Equipped with hydro jets for superior water-obstacle crossing, providing significant operational flexibility.
The “Atmanirbhar” Impact
The project marks a successful collaboration between the public sector and Indian industry giants:
-
Industry Partners: Manufacturing was led by TATA Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and Bharat Forge Limited (BFL), supported by a network of MSMEs.
-
Indigenous Content: Currently at 65%, the DRDO aims to scale local components to 90% in future iterations.
The unveiling was attended by top scientists from across the DRDO ecosystem (ARDE, DMRL, CVRDE), underscoring a unified effort to strengthen India’s domestic defense manufacturing corridor.
