ABU DHABI: Amid intensifying regional conflict, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to deliver a strong message of solidarity, affirming that India is ready to back all efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in West Asia.
Condemning Drone Strikes and Praising UAE’s Restraint
The bilateral talks focused heavily on security, following a drone strike on the Fujairah Petroleum Industries Zone that injured three Indian nationals—an attack the UAE Ministry of Defence has blamed on Iran.
PM Modi fiercely condemned the hostility, calling the targeting of the UAE entirely “unacceptable.”
-
He assured the UAE President that India stands shoulder to shoulder with the nation.
-
He praised Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed for his courage, restraint, and wisdom in managing the volatile crisis.
-
He extended his gratitude to the UAE government for safeguarding the large Indian community during these turbulent times.
The Global Energy Threat: Strait of Hormuz Blockade
A major highlight of the discussion was the critical situation surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. The vital maritime channel was closed by Iran on February 28 following US-Israeli military strikes, choking a route that handles roughly 20 percent of global petroleum supplies.
PM Modi reiterated India’s firm stance on maritime safety, emphasizing that keeping the waterway open and accessible is paramount to securing global energy and food corridors. He urged all parties to respect international law to prevent further disruption to the global economy.
