New Delhi | April 12, 2026 — The Indian Navy is set to host the first edition of its biannual Commanders’ Conference 2026 at Nausena Bhawan, New Delhi, from April 14 to April 16. The three-day apex-level forum will serve as a critical platform for the naval leadership to review operational readiness and align strategic goals with national security imperatives.

    Strategic Context and Global Security

This edition of the conference is particularly significant given the current geopolitical climate:

    • West Asia Conflict: Discussions will address swift naval deployments initiated to safeguard India’s Energy Security amidst ongoing tensions in West Asia.

    • Indian Ocean Region (IOR): Leadership will evaluate the convergence of Multi-National Forces (MNFs) in the IOR and the Navy’s role as a “Preferred Security Partner” in the Indo-Pacific.

    • Post-‘Op Sindoor’ Review: The conference will reaffirm operational doctrines and inter-services coordination following recent major operations.

    Key Discussion Pillars

The Chief of the Naval Staff, along with top operational commanders, will focus on several high-priority enablers for combat readiness:

    • Technology & AI: Reviewing the Pan-Navy Artificial Intelligence roadmap and the integration of data-driven technologies for seamless operations.

    • Modern Warfare: Effective employment of uncrewed systems and enhancing blue-water capabilities.

    • Jointness: Interactions with the Chief of Defence Staff and the Home Secretary to bolster interoperability across the armed forces.

    • MAHASAGAR Vision: Furthering the government’s vision of “Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security Across Regions” through international cooperation and indigenization.

    Operational Doctrine

The deliberations will ensure the Navy is prepared to fulfill its four primary roles as defined in the Indian Maritime Doctrine (IMD). Beyond security, the leadership will assess human resource management, sustainable maintenance, and operational logistics to ensure the fleet remains combat-ready for multi-dimensional challenges in a shifting geo-strategic environment.
