NEW DELHI — Inter-state commuting between the national capital and Rajasthan is set for a major efficiency boost as the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) initiates plans to eliminate all physical toll booths along the entire Delhi-Jaipur section of National Highway 48 (NH-48).
The modernization push is being executed by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), deploying next-generation automated tracking to clear historical highway bottlenecks.
The Engineering Framework: MLFF Architecture
At the heart of this structural upgrade is the Multi-Lane Free-Flow Tolling System (MLFF). This technology enables high-speed, non-stop vehicular movement, removing the need for physical drop-gates or manual cash/card transactions.
The corridor’s digital canopy utilizes a unified tracking layer:
-
Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR): Overhead high-resolution cameras read and document license plates at full highway velocities.
-
Streamlined FASTag Sync: Automated software cross-references the camera feeds with electronic toll accounts to instantly deduct transit fees with zero human intervention.
Strategic Mapping of the Corridor
The NHAI is methodically phasing out traditional physical gates at vital high-traffic plazas along the NH-48 stretch:
-
Daulatpura Toll Plaza: Formally rolled out Rajasthan’s first operational MLFF system on June 19, 2026.
-
Manoharpura Toll Plaza: Successfully upgraded next, validating the barrier-less tracking framework.
-
Shahjahanpur Toll Plaza: Scheduled as the next immediate target for MLFF integration, a move that will finalize the seamless, barrier-free connection between Delhi and Jaipur.
“MLFF enables zero waiting time and uninterrupted vehicular movement. This tech deployment helps commuters optimize travel time, boost fleet fuel efficiency, and drastically reduce localized vehicular emissions.” — Official NHAI Statement
Socioeconomic and Environmental Impact
By erasing stop-and-start queues on one of India’s busiest economic arteries, MoRTH expects to deliver major supply-chain advantages. The barrier-free environment on NH-48 will significantly lower the freight transit turnaround time, curtail fuel wastage stemming from idling heavy commercial vehicles, and create a scalable template for national highway infrastructure development.
