BHUBANESWAR — In a historic joint visit, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, are scheduled to arrive in Odisha on June 20, 2026. The high-profile visit marks a rare dual appearance by the country’s top two leaders in the state.

The visit coincides with the completion of two years of the Government of Odisha. To celebrate the milestone, the leaders will participate in a massive developmental convention at Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district under the theme “Vikas ra Dhara, Odisha Sara” (Stream of Development Across Odisha), where they will inaugurate or lay the foundation stones for infrastructure projects valued at over ₹47,600 crore.

    Key Itinerary Highlights

    • 11:15 AM (Pahadpur Village, Mayurbhanj): The President and Prime Minister will start their tour at Pahadpur. They will offer prayers at the sacred tribal groves of Santhali Jahera and Ho Jahera, followed by visits to the local Skill Centre and Pahadpur School. The segment highlights the central government’s focus on tribal education, skill development, and rural empowerment.

    • 1:00 PM (Rairangpur, Mayurbhanj): The leaders will head the main state program marking the two-year anniversary of the state government. The Prime Minister will address a massive public gathering and officially kick off the development bundle spanning energy, transit, and irrigation sectors.

    Major Projects Under Review

The mega-development package includes crucial foundation stones and project inaugurations designed to boost Odisha’s energy security, industrial footprint, and connectivity networks.

    1. Energy & Clean Tech (Foundation Stones)

    • 600 MW Upper Indravati Pumped Storage Project: Designed to boost peak-load power management and renewable grid integration.

    • IB Thermal Power Station (Stage-II Expansion): Adding two advanced supercritical units of 660 MW each to expand state generation capacity.

    • Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals Limited (BCGCL) Project: Located at Lakhanpur, Jharsuguda district, this project focuses on the clean utilization of domestic coal to reduce chemical import dependencies.

    • Compressed Biogas (CBG) Plant (Bhubaneswar): A 300 tonnes-per-day (TPD) source-segregated Municipal Solid Waste-based plant driving urban waste-to-energy targets.

    2. Road Transit & Rail Infrastructure

    • Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Twin City Link: Foundation stone for a new bridge over the Kathajodi River, offering direct, high-velocity connectivity between the twin cities.

    • National Highway Expansions: Foundation stone for the four-laning of NH-353 from Nuapada to Ghatipada and the inauguration of the Nayagarh Town Bypass on NH-57.

    • Rail Multi-Tracking: Inauguration of critical capacity lines including the Jakhapura-Jajpur Keonjhar Road-Baitarani Road and the Hindol Road-Meramandali multi-tracking projects to expedite heavy freight movement.

    3. Public Utilities, Health, & Social Infrastructure

    • Healthcare Expansion: Official inauguration of the newly built 300-bedded District Headquarters Hospital building at Boudh.

    • Public Transport Networks: Rollout of 24 Atal Bus Stands and nine Automated Testing Stations across multiple districts to standardize state transport safety.

    • Irrigation Milestones: Launch of the Kusumdihi Megalift Irrigation Project alongside the inauguration of the underground pipeline network of the Kusumi Smart Irrigation Project.

    • Local Development at Rairangpur: Launches for an IGNOU Regional Centre, an Indoor Badminton Complex, a dedicated Sports Complex, and a new Tribal Research Centre.
