NEW DELHI — Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a traditional Sanskrit Subhashitam (epigram) to highlight the enduring value of selfless service, dedication, and social benevolence, emphasizing that individual capabilities should be directed toward the broader welfare of humanity.
In a message posted on social media platform X, the Prime Minister reflected on the natural flow of rivers as an enduring metaphor for public service and nation-building.
The Message and Text
“जीवनं स्वं परार्थाय नित्यं यच्छत मानवाः।
इति सन्देशमाख्यातुं समुद्रं यान्ति निम्नगाः॥”
Translating the verse into contemporary context, the Prime Minister noted:
-
Lessons from Nature: Just as rivers flow continuously without self-interest—sustaining communities and ecosystems before merging into the sea—human beings are encouraged to dedicate their abilities, time, and resources toward the collective well-being.
-
National Direction: A collective spirit of benevolence, sacrifice, and selfless service (paropkar) provides a constructive direction for national progress and social harmony.
-
Purpose of Life: The commentary highlights that personal fulfillment is deeply tied to compassion, community service, and working for the greater good of society.
