Former West Bengal cadre IPS officer Mrityunjay Kumar Singh (1987 batch) has been named Director of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (Kolkata Kendra), with his tenure set to commence on August 1, 2026.
In this executive capacity, Singh will lead the governance and expansion of the Bhavan’s operational assets across West Bengal, encompassing two prominent academic schools, a management institute, a Kala Kendra, and a dedicated sports academy.
Singh transitions into institutional governance following a multifaceted career in law enforcement, foreign policy, and cultural administration. His past administrative roles include Superintendent of Police in Murshidabad and undivided Midnapore, Director overseeing Bangladesh affairs at the Ministry of External Affairs, Regional Passport Officer, and Counsellor (Culture) at the Indian Embassy in Jakarta, where he spearheaded major cross-cultural initiatives including the three-month ‘Festival of India’.
