NEW DELHI — In a major diplomatic push across the Indo-Pacific, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a high-profile, three-nation tour covering Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand from July 6 to July 11, 2026.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that the tour aims to deepen defense ties, expand free-trade frameworks, and strengthen ties with the thriving Indian diaspora across the region.

    1. Indonesia (July 6–8): Enhancing the Strategic Partnership

At the invitation of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, PM Modi will begin his tour in Jakarta. This marks his fourth visit to the nation and his first formal bilateral trip since the two countries elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

    • Bilateral Agenda: PM Modi and President Prabowo will review joint maritime security initiatives and economic corridors in the Indian Ocean.

    • Cultural & Diaspora Outreach: In Jakarta, the Prime Minister will address a massive gathering of the Indian diaspora. Highlighting shared civilizational links, he will also tour the historic Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta, a prominent UNESCO World Heritage site.

    2. Australia (July 8–10): Trade, Investment, and Leadership Talks

PM Modi will then travel to Melbourne at the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

    • High-Level Dialogues: Alongside bilateral talks with PM Albanese, the Prime Minister will call on the Governor-General of Australia, Ms. Sam Mostyn AC.

    • Commercial Push: PM Modi will co-chair the India-Australia CEOs Forum, pitching directly to top corporate leaders to accelerate investments under the Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA). He will wrap up the Australian leg by addressing a major diaspora event in Melbourne.

    3. New Zealand (July 10–11): A Historic Milestone

The final leg of the tour takes PM Modi to Auckland for an official State Visit at the invitation of New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon. This marks a major milestone in bilateral relations.

A 40-Year Milestone: This will be the first official State Visit by an Indian Prime Minister to New Zealand in four decades.

    • Comprehensive Review: Talks with PM Luxon will focus on the rapid momentum built over the last two years, particularly in defense cooperation, supply chain resilience, and bilateral trade.

    • Cultural Exchange: Beyond political meetings, PM Modi will interact with prominent Kiwi business leaders and sports personalities, concluding his tour with a community address to Auckland’s Indian diaspora.
