BENGALURU — State-owned aerospace major Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has entered into strategic manufacturing agreements with Adani Defence Systems and Technologies Limited (ADSTL) and public sector enterprise Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) to manufacture fuselage structures for the Prachand Light Combat Helicopter (LCH).
The landmark partnership marks the first time private industry players have been integrated into the production of main structural airframes for military helicopters in India, significantly expanding the nation’s defense manufacturing ecosystem.
Manufacturing Scope and Production Allocation
Under the signed contracts, the industrial partners will fabricate a total of 90 fuselage structures to support HAL’s delivery commitments for the Indian Armed Forces:

BEML: Contracted to manufacture 48 fuselage structures.

Adani Defence Systems & Technologies: Contracted to manufacture 42 fuselage structures.
The formal agreements were signed by Tushar Ranjan Behera, General Manager of HAL’s Helicopter Division, alongside Cmde (Retd.) R. G. K. Rao, Executive Director (Aerospace & Maritime) for BEML, and Prasanna Karthik, Vice President at ADSTL.
Strategic Significance for Defense Ecosystem
Commenting on the agreements, Ravi K, Chairman and Managing Director of HAL, emphasized that establishing two external assembly lines will accelerate production pipelines and strengthen the domestic supply chain network.
The initiative supports HAL’s ongoing production drive to manufacture 156 Prachand LCH units ordered by the military, operating out of its specialized helicopter manufacturing complex in Tumakuru, Karnataka. Beyond primary assembly contractors, the multi-vendor production model is set to generate sustained tier-2 and tier-3 manufacturing demand across domestic micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and specialized defense component vendors.
