VADODARA – Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Sardardham Hostel and the Dr. Dushyant and Daksha Patel Complex in Vadodara on Monday, marking a major expansion of educational infrastructure in Gujarat. The event coincided with the 75th consecration anniversary of the Somnath Temple, a synchronicity the PM described as a blend of “heritage and progress.”
During the ceremony, the Prime Minister also launched the Teaching Assistance Scheme and conducted ground-breaking ceremonies for several new educational projects across the state.
A Call for “Duty-First” Amid Global Instability
In a significant portion of his address, PM Modi addressed the global uncertainty stemming from the conflict in West Asia, labeling it the major crisis of this decade. He drew parallels to the collective effort seen during the COVID-19 pandemic, urging citizens to adopt a “duty-first” approach to shield the national economy.
“The government is making relentless efforts to ensure the impact of the West Asia war on our citizens is kept to a minimum,” the PM stated. He specifically called on the public to:
-
Conserve Foreign Exchange: Postpone gold purchases and avoid international vacations.
-
Reduce Fuel Consumption: Prioritize public transport, car-pooling, and virtual meetings to lower the nation’s crude oil import bill.
-
Wed in India: Choose domestic destinations like the Statue of Unity for weddings instead of international “destination weddings.”
Education and the “Startup” Culture
Reflecting on the National Education Policy (NEP), the Prime Minister emphasized that the government is tailoring education to ground realities. He noted that the youth, particularly in small towns, are increasingly choosing sectors once deemed “risky,” leading to a surge in the startup ecosystem.
“Gujarat understood two decades ago that societal progress depends on female participation,” he observed, highlighting the rising number of women in startups and historically male-dominated fields like aviation and the military.
Semiconductor and Manufacturing Hub
The Prime Minister positioned Gujarat as a critical node in the global semiconductor supply chain, citing the commencement of production at the Kaynes Semiconductor Plant in Sanand and ongoing projects in Dholera and Surat. He noted that Vadodara itself is evolving into a manufacturing powerhouse, with its reach extending to international markets through metro coach production and aerospace engineering.
“Vocal for Local” as a Mass Movement
PM Modi concluded by urging the transformation of “Vocal for Local” into a nationwide civic movement. He encouraged the adoption of indigenous fertilizers and natural farming in agriculture and called for a collective pledge from India’s 140 crore citizens to reduce reliance on imported goods, thereby strengthening national resilience against global supply chain disruptions.
