BIKANER – In a major step toward its renewable energy transition, Coal India Limited has declared Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Limited (SWREL) as the L1 bidder for a massive 875 MW AC solar PV project. This marks the first solar EPC award from the coal mining major to SWREL as it diversifies into utility-scale green energy.
The turnkey project will be located in Bikaner, Rajasthan, a region known for having some of the highest solar irradiation levels in the country.
Project Scope and Value
The total contract value of approximately ₹3,490 crore covers the entire lifecycle of the plant’s establishment and early operation:
-
Turnkey EPC: Complete engineering, procurement, and construction.
-
Grid Integration: Establishing necessary grid connectivity for power distribution.
-
Long-term O&M: Comprehensive operation and maintenance services included in the contract value.
Surpassing Growth Targets
Alongside the Coal India win, SWREL secured an additional 50 MW project in Maharashtra from a private power producer. These new orders have pushed the company’s FY26 order inflow past ₹10,062 crore, significantly exceeding its initial targets for the fiscal year.
Leadership Perspective
Chandra Kishore Thakur, Global CEO of SWREL, expressed pride in partnering with the Maharatna PSU, noting that the company is well-positioned to sustain its momentum as India continues its aggressive push for renewable development. SWREL now manages a global portfolio of over 26.1 GWp across 28 countries, cementing its status as a leading pure-play renewable EPC provider.
