NEW DELHI – In a major step toward regional energy security, NLC India Limited has announced that its strategic joint venture project in Uttar Pradesh is entering the final stages of completion. The Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited (NUPPL) thermal plant is poised to become a critical pillar of the northern power grid.
The announcement, made on March 31, 2026, highlights the steady progress of the 3×660 MW coal-based project, developed in partnership with Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL).
Project Status & Milestones
The facility is moving rapidly toward its full 1,980 MW capacity:
-
Units 1 & 2: Already successfully commissioned and operational.
-
Unit 3: Currently in the final stages of commissioning and expected to go live shortly.
-
Full Operations: The project is on track for total operational readiness, providing a massive boost to base-load power.
Strengthening Energy Security
Once Unit 3 is synchronized, the NUPPL plant will offer:
-
Reliable Dispatchable Power: Ensuring a steady electricity supply to northern states during peak demand.
-
Grid Resilience: Enhancing the stability of the national power ecosystem through consistent thermal generation.
-
Industrial Growth: Supporting the increasing electricity needs of Uttar Pradesh and neighboring regions.
Collaborative Success
This milestone reflects the successful collaboration between the Navratna CPSE, NLC India, and the state-owned UPRVUNL. By leveraging high-efficiency supercritical technology, the project aims to balance India’s growing energy requirements with modernized power infrastructure.
