NEW DELHI — On the occasion of National Panchayati Raj Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings to public representatives across India, emphasizing the spirit of selfless service. In a message shared on X, the Prime Minister highlighted the crucial role local leaders play in nation-building and grassroots governance.
To underscore the ethical duties of a leader, PM Modi shared a profound Sanskrit Subhashitam, illustrating the ideal relationship between a representative and the citizens.
The Essence of Leadership: A Sanskrit Perspective
The Prime Minister quoted a traditional verse that defines the true nature of a public servant:
“प्रजासुखे सुखं राज्ञः प्रजानां च हिते हितम्। नात्मप्रियं प्रियं राज्ञः प्रजानां तु प्रियं प्रियम्॥”
Translation: “The happiness of the people’s representative lies in the happiness of the people; his welfare lies in the welfare of the people. A representative has no personal favorites; whatever is dear to the people is what is dear to him.”
Empowering Local Governance
Marking the day, PM Modi praised the dedication of representatives from the village level to the district level. He noted that their commitment to Jan Seva (public service) and Rashtra Seva (national service) serves as an inspiration for the entire country.
