New Delhi | April 10, 2026 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed “profound pain” following a tragic boat capsize in the Yamuna River near Kesi Ghat, Vrindavan, which has claimed at least 10 lives. The victims were part of a group of approximately 150 pilgrims from Ludhiana and Muktsar, Punjab, who had traveled to the holy city for darshan.

In a statement shared on X, the Prime Minister extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and offered prayers for the swift recovery of the 22 people injured in the accident.

To support the affected families, the Prime Minister has sanctioned financial assistance from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF):

    • ₹2 Lakh for the next of kin of each deceased victim.

    • ₹50,000 for each of the injured.
