NEW DELHI — Reaffirming its commitment to fostering secure and gender-inclusive working environments, the Ministry of Women and Child Development on Wednesday highlighted the expanded role of SHe-Box 2.0 (Sexual Harassment electronic Box). Operating under the government’s flagship Mission Shakti umbrella, the specialized single-window portal functions as a technology-driven enforcer for the historic Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (SH Act).
Initially rolled out in August 2024 to replace an older, basic complaint system, the 2.0 version has evolved into a robust administrative dashboard that brings accountability across both organized and unorganized sectors, spanning government offices and private corporations alike.
Key Operational Features of SHe-Box 2.0
SHe-Box 2.0 goes beyond being a simple digital complaint form; it serves as a decentralized, legally backed compliance repository designed to break down bureaucratic delays:
-
Decentralized Nodal Network: The portal directly onboards State and District Nodal Officers. This allows regional authorities to track the lifecycle of a complaint in real time and step in if timelines under the SH Act are violated.
-
The National IC/LC Directory: The platform maintains a dynamic, searchable repository of all Internal Committees (ICs) within central, state, and private organizations, alongside Local Committees (LCs) formed at the district level to support women working in the unorganized sector.
-
Multilingual and Secure Interface: To ensure accessibility for women across diverse geographies and economic backgrounds, the user interface is fully operational in 22 recognized languages. The platform uses secure encryption protocols to protect identity and ensure complete confidentiality throughout the inquiry.
Structural Integration and Systemic Accountability
The digital governance upgrade comes amid a broader push to scale up female labor force participation by systematically eliminating workplace vulnerabilities across all tiers of employment—including private corporate entities, central and state ministries, and local grassroots sectors.
By transitioning tracking out of closed office rooms and onto a centralized digital network, the Ministry aims to completely remove the friction and fear often associated with reporting workplace harassment.
Under the SH Act, organizations are legally required to resolve complaints within strict statutory timeframes. SHe-Box 2.0 provides an objective, monitorable audit trail across all administrative tiers. This multi-layered monitoring network prevents internal workplace committees from sweeping complaints under the rug, ensuring that corporate and public employers maintain zero-tolerance safety standards on the ground.
