LEH – Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah is scheduled to launch a series of major dairy infrastructure and cooperative projects in Ladakh on May 1, 2026. The event, held at the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS), aims to strengthen the region’s rural economy through the “Sahkar se Samriddhi” (Prosperity through Cooperatives) vision.
The Minister will be joined by Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh and Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena for the foundation-laying and inauguration ceremony.
Strengthening Infrastructure and Quality
The initiatives focus on modernizing the dairy supply chain in both Leh and Kargil:
-
New Dairy Plants: Foundation stone for a 10 TLPD (Thousand Liters Per Day) dairy plant in Kargil and inauguration of curd and paneer production units in Leh.
-
Cold Chain & Testing: Launch of a Bulk Milk Cooler system and a mobile milk testing laboratory to ensure quality and shelf-life for local produce.
Digital Empowerment and Market Linkages
To modernize the cooperative sector, the Ministry is introducing tech-driven solutions and strategic partnerships:
-
Android-based AMCS: An Automated Milk Collection System will be launched to streamline procurement and ensure transparent, digital payments to farmers.
-
Marketing MoUs: Agreements will be signed to market and distribute local dairy products under prominent brands, providing farmers better market access.
Support for Farmers
The program will also include the felicitation of progressive dairy farmers from the region. These initiatives represent a comprehensive effort to enhance rural livelihoods and promote inclusive economic growth across the Union Territory.
