BILASPUR / RAIPUR: Reinforcing its corporate alignment with the national Swachh Bharat Mission, NTPC Sipat executed a large-scale cleanliness awareness rally and mass shramdaan (voluntary labor) initiative. The public outreach campaign successfully mobilized nearly 800 participants, including public sector employees, township residents, security forces, students, and local community stakeholders.
The cleanliness drive was spearheaded by Shri Swapan Kumar Mandal, Project Head of NTPC Sipat. The awareness rally commenced from the main gates of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Sipat facility and culminated at Sipat Haat, traversing a 1.5-kilometer route to advocate for public hygiene and community-led environmental responsibility.
Key Operational Highlights of the Campaign
The industrial and community partnership focused on immediate waste mitigation and long-term behavioral changes:
-
Targeted Waste Removal: Intensive cleaning operations were executed across eight pre-identified bottleneck locations along the 1.5-kilometer rally route, clearing long-accumulated garbage and waste dump sites.
-
Water Body Restructuring: A dedicated sanitation drive was deployed at Baldeva Pond, a vital local public utility zone that experiences heavy daily community footfall.
-
Multi-Stakeholder Pre-Planning: To maximize regional outreach, NTPC Sipat management conducted a series of advanced coordination meetings with village heads, CISF personnel, academic administrators, local contracting agencies, and the Press Club.
-
Institutional Representation: The mass campaign observed active field participation from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), local police administration, faculty and students of Bal Bharati Public School, labor unions, contracting workers, and senior NTPC departmental heads.
Executive Mandate on Public Health
Addressing local residents, small business owners, and traders at Sipat Haat, Project Head Shri Swapan Kumar Mandal highlighted the direct correlation between civic cleanliness, public health, and ecological preservation. He emphasized that maintaining a clean environment must transition from a temporary corporate campaign into a permanent collective social responsibility integrated into everyday public life.
Scope of the Fortnightly Initiative
The mass rally marks the concluding phase of the Swachhta Pakhwada framework observed at NTPC Sipat from May 16 to May 31, 2026. Over the course of the fortnight, the power generation utility hosted an array of interactive community programs to sustain momentum, including:
-
Formal Swachhta Pledge administration ceremonies across plant departments.
-
Competitive academic outreach programs consisting of student essay-writing, quiz, and painting contests.
