NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed “immense delight” following the passage of the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2026 by Parliament on Thursday. The Prime Minister characterized the legislation as a landmark move toward a trust-based governance model that prioritizes both “Ease of Living” and “Ease of Doing Business.”

The Bill aims to modernize India’s legal framework by eliminating obsolete regulations and reducing the judicial burden through the decriminalization of minor offenses.

    Key Highlights of the Bill:

    • Decriminalization of Minor Offenses: The Act replaces several criminal penalties with monetary fines, aiming to reduce the backlog of litigation and prevent the harassment of citizens and businesses over technical lapses.

    • Trust-Based Governance: PM Modi noted that the Bill empowers citizens by removing outdated rules, shifting the relationship between the state and the public toward one of mutual trust.

    • Speedy Case Disposal: By streamlining administrative processes, the legislation is designed to ensure faster resolution of disputes and a significant reduction in the legal burden on the judiciary.

    • Consultative Process: The Prime Minister lauded the collaborative approach used in drafting the Bill, thanking stakeholders and lawmakers for their insights and support.

    Strategic Impact

The passage of the Jan Vishwas Bill 2026 is seen as a major step in India’s ongoing regulatory reforms. By decriminalizing various provisions across multiple central acts, the government intends to foster a more investment-friendly environment while simplifying day-to-day interactions for the common man.
