VADODARA – Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Sardardham Hostel and the Dr. Dushyant and Daksha Patel Complex in Vadodara on Monday, describing the new educational infrastructure as a “launching pad” for India’s youth. The ceremony coincided with the 75th anniversary of the Somnath Temple’s consecration, a project originally championed by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
The Prime Minister used the platform to address the growing global instability, particularly the conflict in West Asia, which he categorized as the defining crisis of this decade.
A National Appeal for Economic Resilience
Stating that India is not “untouched” by global tensions, the Prime Minister made a personal appeal to the nation’s 140 crore citizens to prioritize their duties and reduce the burden on national resources. He highlighted that rising fuel costs and disrupted supply chains present a “double challenge” to the Indian economy.
To safeguard foreign exchange reserves, PM Modi urged several lifestyle adjustments:
-
Energy Conservation: “Wherever possible, reduce the use of petrol and diesel,” he requested, advocating for public transport, metro services, and carpooling.
-
Domestic Consumption: He encouraged citizens to postpone gold purchases and reduce reliance on imported cooking oil.
-
“Wed in India”: The PM specifically critiqued the trend of “destination weddings” abroad, suggesting the Statue of Unity as a world-class alternative for ceremonies.
“Vocal for Local” and Digital Solutions
The Prime Minister called for “Vocal for Local” to become a mass movement, urging families to vacation within India rather than traveling abroad. He also suggested that both government and private offices should prioritize virtual meetings and work-from-home arrangements to curb unnecessary fuel expenditure during the ongoing global crisis.
Transforming Gujarat’s Industrial Landscape
Highlighting Gujarat’s role in the global supply chain, the PM noted that the state is rapidly becoming a hub for semiconductor manufacturing, aerospace, and green energy. He pointed to the production of made-in-India semiconductors in Sanand and the emergence of Vadodara as an aviation and manufacturing powerhouse.
Dedication to Sardar Patel’s Vision
Upon receiving the Sardar Gaurav Ratna award at the event, the Prime Minister reflected on his personal mission, stating, “Perhaps it is written in my destiny that all the dreams and unfinished works of Sardar Saheb are to be completed by me.” He concluded by assuring that the values imbibed from Gujarat’s soil would ensure he never steps back from fulfilling those national objectives.
