NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi today celebrated the 11th anniversary of the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY), hailing it as a cornerstone for youth self-employment and national progress. Launched on April 8, 2015, the scheme has spent over a decade providing collateral-free loans to small and micro-enterprises.
Empowering the ‘Self-Reliant’ Indian
The Prime Minister emphasized that the success of the MUDRA scheme reflects the inherent potential of India’s citizens to transform from job seekers into job creators.
-
Youth Impact: The scheme has been particularly instrumental in providing financial wings to young entrepreneurs in rural and semi-urban areas.
-
National Contribution: PM Modi noted that when individuals are given the right opportunities to become Atmanirbhar (self-reliant), they inherently drive the country’s collective growth.
The “Wise Individual”: A Sanskrit Perspective
To mark the occasion, the Prime Minister shared a Sanskrit Subhashitam defining the qualities of a wise person (Pandit), drawing a parallel between ancient virtues and modern entrepreneurship:
“आत्मज्ञानं समारम्भस्तितिक्षा धर्मनित्यता। यमर्था नापकर्षन्ति स वै पण्डित उच्यते॥”
The Definition of Wisdom:
-
Self-Awareness: Knowing one’s own abilities and strengths.
-
Resilience: Patiently enduring adverse circumstances.
-
Integrity: Consistently following righteous conduct and not being diverted by greed.
11 Years of Financial Inclusion
Since its inception, the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana has targeted the “unfunded” sections of society through three categories: Shishu, Kishore, and Tarun. By the start of the 2026-27 fiscal year, the scheme remains a pivotal tool in the government’s mission to foster a decentralized and inclusive economy.
