NEW DELHI – The Technology Development Board (TDB), under the Department of Science & Technology (DST), has signed a landmark agreement with M/s Scharge Pvt Limited to spearhead the project “Powering EV Charging Innovation.” This initiative is part of the India–UK Collaborative R&D Programme, partnered with UK-based Albright Product Design Limited, to revolutionize infrastructure for the electric vehicle (EV) sector.
Key Innovation: Automated Charging Solutions
The project focuses on developing a next-generation charging system specifically tailored for commercial fleets and depots. The technology integrates Indian-made smart controllers with a patented UK cable management system.
-
Motorised Overhead Management: The system features a motorised overhead cable setup that reduces manual handling and protects equipment from wear and tear.
-
Operational Efficiency: By streamlining the charging process, the solution aims to significantly reduce turnaround times for fleet operators.
-
Enhanced Safety: The design minimizes risks associated with cable damage, vandalism, and tripping hazards in high-traffic depot environments.
-
Universal Compatibility: The system is designed to be fully compatible with existing AC Type-2 EV chargers.
Strategic Impact
Shri Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary of TDB, emphasized that such international collaborations are vital for building a “future-ready ecosystem” in India. The project aims to:
-
Strengthen Indigenous Capabilities: Bolster India’s expertise in advanced power electronics.
-
Support Rapid EV Adoption: Provide the scalable infrastructure needed as India transitions to electric mobility.
-
Global Competitiveness: Enable Indian firms like Scharge to bring world-class, innovative solutions to the domestic and international markets.
