KOLKATA — State-run mining giant Coal India Limited (CIL) held its 52nd Annual General Meeting on Monday, where Chairman and Managing Director outlined a strategic roadmap targeting 70 million tonnes (MT) of underground coal production by FY 2029–30.
The state-owned miner highlighted its shift toward mass production technologies—including continuous miners and highwall mining—alongside major corporate listings, coal gasification initiatives, and capital returns to shareholders.

Commercial Coal Gasification Project: Foundation stone laid on June 20, 2026, for India’s first commercial coal gasification venture via Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals Limited (JV with BHEL). The ₹25,000 crore project will produce 6.6 lakh tonnes of ammonium nitrate annually.

Operational Performance: Total coal production for the financial year reached 768.19 MT (vs. 781.06 MT prior year), with total coal offtake at 744.83 MT (vs. 762.98 MT) and overburden removal at 1,980 million cubic metres (vs. 2,019 million cubic metres).

Shareholder Returns: Declared a total dividend of ₹26.50 per share (265% of face value), combining three interim dividends (₹21.25) and a recommended final dividend (₹5.25). CIL contributed ₹10,272 crore to the Government of India in dividend revenue.
