NEW DELHI — The Ministry of Mines has launched an expanded e-waste collection and resource recovery initiative under Special Campaign 6, focusing on responsible recycling, secondary metal extraction, and critical mineral recovery to advance India’s circular economy goals.

Implemented through the Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research Development and Design Centre (JNARDDC) in Nagpur as the nodal agency, in partnership with the Material Recycling Association of India (MRAI), the campaign establishes formal collection and awareness mechanisms across designated government offices nationwide.

    Key Highlights & Operational Network

    • Nationwide Infrastructure: The Ministry has finalized more than 44 office locations across India for structured e-waste collection, including its headquarters in New Delhi and over 28 locations in Maharashtra.

    • Critical Mineral Recovery: The drive emphasizes extracting strategic secondary metals and critical minerals embedded in discarded electronics, reducing reliance on primary mining while promoting resource efficiency.

    • Nodal Agency Coordination: JNARDDC conducted virtual strategy and operational alignment sessions with designated nodal officers from key constituent units and public sector enterprises, including:

      • Geological Survey of India (GSI)

      • Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM)

      • National Institute of Rock Mechanics (NIRM)

      • National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO)

      • Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL)

      • Mineral Exploration and Consultancy Limited (MECL)

      • Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL)

    • Public and Employee Engagement (Jan Bhagidari): Participating offices are hosting awareness drives, internal competitions, and segregation workshops to encourage employees and community stakeholders to reuse, repurpose, and responsibly recycle electrical equipment.
