NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) has officially opened applications for the August–September term of its specialized Internship Programme. The initiative is specifically designed to orient participants with the core policy frameworks, national programs, and ongoing activities of the Ministry through a short-term professional association.
The program targets women students, scholars, social activists, and teachers who are currently enrolled in or associated with recognized universities, as well as academic or non-academic institutions.
Eligibility Criteria and Target Demographic
To ensure widespread representation and provide opportunities to underrepresented regions, the Ministry has outlined specific eligibility parameters:
-
Gender and Age Brackets: The program is exclusively open to women candidates within the age group of 21 to 40 years.
-
Geographic Focus: Eligible candidates must belong to non-Tier-I cities or rural areas across India.
-
Exclusion Clause: In order to maximize the distribution of opportunities, candidates who have been selected for the internship once in the past are ineligible to apply for any subsequent terms.
Application Process and Timeline
Prospective interns must submit their applications strictly through the official online portal: http://wcd.intern.nic.in/.
The Ministry operates the Internship Programme across four distinct bi-monthly terms during the financial year:
-
May–June
-
August–September (Current Active Window)
-
November–December
-
February–March
For each of these two-month terms, the application window systematically opens exactly two months prior to the commencement date, accepting submissions strictly between the 1st and 10th day of the month.
Core Objectives and Scope of Work
The MWCD intends to tap young, diverse talent to drive the improved implementation of public welfare schemes and actively engage them with structural policy processes.
During the two-month tenure, selected interns will be expected to:
-
Research and Analysis: Conduct pilot projects or micro-studies focusing on the active operations of the Ministry.
-
Policy Contribution: Provide data-backed insights through empirical analysis, comprehensive reports, policy briefs, and research papers.
-
Stakeholder Engagement: Operate within an enabling environment that facilitates direct interaction with Ministry officials, various line Ministries, and key institutional stakeholders working toward the well-being and empowerment of women and children.
Through this structure, the Ministry aims to foster meaningful academic interaction on government initiatives while simultaneously bridging critical information gaps on gender and childcare issues across the country.
