GUWAHATI: In a major move to secure its long-term product monetization framework, Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) has formalized a 10-year sulphur offtake agreement with Teesta Agro Industries Limited.
The long-term commercial partnership is designed to anchor NRL’s post-expansion marketing strategy, ensuring a dependable and smooth evacuation channel for its increased sulphur production.
Agreement Architecture and Supply Volumes
The structured deal sets up a direct raw-material pipeline between the public sector refiner and the agricultural input manufacturer:
-
The Supply Commitment: Under the contractual terms, NRL will allocate and supply up to 15,000 metric tonnes (MT) of lump-form sulphur on an annual basis to Teesta Agro Industries.
-
Industrial Application: Based in Rajganj in the Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal, Teesta Agro will deploy the procured sulphur as a core raw material for its large-scale fertilizer manufacturing operations.
-
Tenure Details: Signed on June 2, 2026, the agreement carries an initial absolute tenure of 10 years. The contract includes an enabling clause allowing an extension for an additional 2 years, subject to mutual performance evaluation and operational satisfaction.
Mitigating Post-Expansion Marketing Risks
This agreement marks NRL’s second major sulphur marketing deal in recent weeks, arriving shortly after a similar sales pact signed with Progressive Fertichem Private Limited on May 18, 2026.
As the energy major rapidly scales up its refining capacities, these back-to-back commercial underwriting arrangements allow NRL to build a highly diversified network of domestic industrial consumers. Securing dedicated, high-volume buyers significantly de-risks the company’s product placement strategies, optimizes localized logistics, and ensures a predictable revenue stream from secondary refining by-products.
